Asian Spirit Gallery’s new director Piriya Makornpan Youngblood was raised in Thailand and Her Husband Ben Youngblood has studied Buddhist History and Philosophy for over 15 years and is extremely knowledgeable about the pieces, their history, the periods they come from, the materials they’re made of, and the passion and spirit they provide to those who own them.

Their purpose is to spread this Asian Spirit. It is because of this purpose that he created the gallery. Selling pieces is not our only priority, we want our Clients and Patrons to feel comfortable to come in, experience our gallery in Thailand, educate themselves, and simply enjoy the ambiance created by such an unusual space.

Piriya’s father, Royal Lt. General Makornpan, is an adviser to His Majesty “The King of Thailand.” Piriya’s mother has been in the natural alternative and herbal business for many years handed down from generations, producing Ya-Hom, the popular Thai Herbal Medicine in her small factory in Sarapi, Thailand. “Ya” means Medicine in Thai and “Hom” is good smell.

Ya-Hom is a soothing medicine made from 5-pagodas is a traditional Thai medicine, handed down from generation to generation. Thai ya hom powder relieves dizziness and chest congestion. Thai ya-hom powder can be taken when you feel tired or faint and Ya-hom inhibits histamine effects on stomach acid and pepsin.

Her mother, a retired School Teacher, has dedicated her professional life to doing everything possible to revolutionizing the herbal nutritional business in Asia.

Ben Youngblood made his first trip to Asia, Bali, Indonesia in 1995. When Benny first arrived he knew this was home … Home is were the heart is !

Today, 13 years later. Benny and Piriya have worked extremely hard to accomplish their goals. Any spare time, he and his wife Piriya is spent in Buddhist Temples or in antique galleries and shops. Their collection had grown so large that they could no longer move around their home and it is because of this that Asian Spirit, the gallery evolved.

Over 90% of the pieces represented in the gallery were bought for their personal collection and not because they wanted to sell them. It is because of this passion for the art that today has pieces in a number of museums.

Many of his clients own Asian galleries themselves and are his clients because they are unable to find pieces of such uniqueness and rare quality as they are in Asian Spirit Gallery. Over the years and through many travels, they have developed relationships with many of the old antique families of Asia and it is because of these relationships that his pieces are so well received.

To truly embrace Thai, Burmese, Cambodian, and Vietnamese art, one must always pay attention to the influence of Buddhism and the sweetness that these beliefs promote. Practicing Buddhism achieves a state of profound relaxation, inner harmony, increased mental awareness and may result in deep experiences of self-realization. In addition, it is one of the ways to bring peace to the world.

Without this understanding, one can never fully understand or appreciate the spirituality of Buddhist art.

All proceeds of the Gallery will go to The Buddha Foundation, a training center for disadvantaged Thai teens and a meditation center for Westerners in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Ben Youngblood was greatly moved after seeing a huge need to help educate underprivileged Thai youth and to further advance the practice of Meditation for Westerners. Mr. Youngblood who has long practiced meditation wants to give something back.
